Seven Segment LED Displays

These come in a variety of sizes and are wired as either common-anode or common-cathode. Note that drivers such as the MAX7219 only support the common-cathode devices.

Recommended current per segment is 5 to 10mA. Absolute maximum: 20mA.

Above shows the circuit and a common pinout. The decimal point segment is not shown but is at pin 2.

At left there is an alternative pinout found on an unmarked device. It seems that pinouts are not standardised and it is best to test the device before use.
